Finishing a home renovation on time and on budget can get complicated. There are many factors that can delay your project. We’ve put together a list of factors that usually cause delays that you should consider to ensure your project can still finish on time.
A bathroom remodel can be a daunting project to take on, especially when you’re not sure what you want your new bathroom to look like! There are many things to consider as you want your bathroom to not only meet your needs but also be comfortable and work well with your daily routine. Here are some things to keep in mind when looking to remodel your bathroom.
Joing forces in 2009 seems like just the best thing to do. Its the best answer we can come up when Mike and I look over this journey. 2018 had been a crazy year as we watched the world economics switch from boom to lots of bust and our own country question its report card on lending and our local economy. We had both been working interdependent in the industry for years, flooring, interior design, home design merchandising, cabinet building. Our love for all things renovation and rebuilding had taken us to this point. The once thriving single aspects now were struggling to employ us and we needed to make a change. We wanted a business that did not have just one aspect of the rebuild in mind but all things, design through renovation included for client to choose options from or all of it as they so desired. That excited us. We had been renovating and rebuilding home that sold for better than the asking every time. We loved to make old things new, throwing our talents and training at every projects. The opportunity came when Shelly took on a huge contract requiring interior design, furnishing, flooring and contracting that required more than part time hours. We have never looked back since then.
Working together daily, didn’t factor that aspect in. We do have to be honest, we believe and know a thriving partnership is based on respect for individual talents. Our industry is flocked with issue of less than ethical, less than trained and less than idea situations. Controlling all the variability has been show to be our biggest stresser to our partnership and recognizing our strengths. We both are on the same page of getting projects done right but sometime we have to remember we are doing our best- even when there are not so desirable surprises arrive that we can not change it. I am talking about the correctly portrayed renovation surprises just like on HGTV and other programs like it. This is when these shows are correct in portraying problems that can arise, surprised when the demo exposed the mold or permits added delays. Renovations done in an hour? Well that’s not real but giving credit when credit is due.
We live a town that is all about business, community and family. Its a great community and we love our past ten year motto Love where you Live. The team has changed over the years. We have wished people well as they have moved away from this community or have decided renovation design was not their career of choice. That’s OK, we get that. It took us a province move, trying a few things out in our 20’s and 30’s to figure out what we were passionate about and what “stuck” in our careers. Our goal is to now is to encourage our team to do their very best and to find joy in providing services that will last. Working and living in the Fraser Valley has taught us to value the integrity of knowing we have done our best for our clients. We love running into- no not literally to clients at the grocery store, sporting events and also of course word of mouth referrals. Having a quick visit on the renovation and the results still being enjoyed years after.
Mike just asked me what I was writing..I said an overview of the last ten years. His commit is,”its about empowering people” So I end on this note. Nothing really else matters. We have done time in this industry figuring out the stresses and the successes. Now its time for our new motto and Better Together.
Many of you have probably asked yourself this question: “Should I completely renovate my kitchen or just give it a good facelift?” And while the answer solely depends on your budget and the state of your kitchen, we at Pro-Pack are able and very happy to help you in either situation.
Ultimately, your kitchen should reflect who you are and how you live, so focus on what’s important to you, and don’t let your priorities be influenced by current trends. Yes, it would be lovely to install top-of-the-range countertops, BUT perhaps your family needs more storage space, and in that case you should allocate your budget accordingly. In other words, think about how you use the kitchen, and put your money there.
We will have you know that a kitchen update doesn’t have to break the bank. In fact, the average cost of a kitchen facelift done by Pro-Pack ranges between 15k and 25k, depending on the components and the size of your kitchen; a fraction of the price in comparison with the average complete renovation cost ranging between 32K and 46K. In terms of time for a kitchen facelift, we take 3 to 4 weeks (if the cabinets are to be resprayed). A full renovation takes between 4 to 9 weeks, depending on the size of the kitchen and required components.
Below are our budget-saving ideas to refresh your kitchen and start loving it again.
Wall paint will play a huge role in the overall feel of your kitchen. To make your kitchen look airy and enlarged, always use light colours. Stick to neutral tones like whites, beiges, greys – the lighter the colour, the better. Neutral tones will compliment your cabinetry and décor without overpowering the look and feel of your kitchen.
Create your own accent shelving by removing a set of cabinet doors to create an open shelf space and airy feel in your kitchen – feel free to paint the back wall of the shelf with an accent colour that compliments the colour of your cabinetry. Alternatively, you can order additional cabinets, like the one below, that add that extra space and further personalize your kitchen.
A new coat of cabinetry paint uplifts the entire room. When shopping for the paint, think about the likelihood of you loving the colour in the future. Here is a pro tip: use paint with a primer to reduce the number of coats you’ll need to cover the old paint. Also, consider a washable finish to make the cleaning of your cabinets easier. We are experts in painting cabinets without visible brush/roller strokes, since we spray on the paint for a flawless look and feel.
Do you want to upgrade your cookie-cutter cabinetry? Add on crown mouldings to uplift and elongate your cabinets to create a custom-made look. If you are painting your mouldings, feel free to use a different accent colour to personalize your cabinetry.
New hardware can really make a difference in uplifting your kitchen. Hardware to your cabinetry is as important as jewelry to your evening dress – pair them well and you have an amazing outfit.
Make your kitchen light, warm and inviting by illuminating dark corners and enhancing workspaces with lights installed above your kitchen island, dining area and underneath the top cabinets. Choose lights that match your hardware and the overall style of the kitchen. A glass chandelier will not look great in a farm-styled kitchen.
Faucets & Sinks
Install a new faucet, and you have an easy upgrade to your kitchen sink area. There are many different kinds available; from various retractable styles to the cool touch-free, the choice is yours. Here is a pro tip: make sure your get one that fits by checking the number of holes on the back of your current sink.
When it comes to kitchen facelifts by Pro-Pack, we always install a new sink. In most cases we install udermount granite or stainless steel sinks. Stainless steel double-bowl undermount sinks are the least expensive on the market these days. Composite granite sinks (with no Radon) are often used as well. Blanco is our preferred supplier, offering sinks in wide variety of colours and styles. The faucet in the picture below is supplied by Blanco. It’s a brand new design that can be matched by a granite sink of your preferred style.
Having a backsplash not only uplifts your kitchen’s look but it also adds a great functionality. Your wall will be well protected from all kinds of liquid splatters and spilling accidents. Also, it’s so much easier to scrub and maintain a backsplash than a painted wall. Make sure you go with a timeless backsplash and don’t succumb to trends. For instance, simple white subway tiles or natural stones will grow old with the kitchen and never become obsolete. Visit us in person and see/touch the products we carry – never solely rely on the Internet to make decisions.
Today’s options for countertops are more affordable and more aesthetically pleasing than ever before. Whether you choose laminate, wood, stainless steel or quartz, you can find a finish that suits your style and budget. Please note that granite is not used in our designs as it’s a difficult product to work with. To select the right pattern, most clients had to see a whole slab at a remote warehouse and couldn’t pick from a small sample due to the variation in patterns. Radon is also a big concern as it’s a health risk.
Our favorite material for countertops is engineered quartz. There is a large selection ranging in price out there. Caesar Stone and Silestone are the two we use exclusively. Occasionally, we also use Firstone and TCE in our designs. Just like Pro-Pack, Caesar Stone and Silestone are both members of the GVHBA (Greater Vancouver Home Builder’s Association).

Do you have that favourite room in your house? You know that space, the one you gravitate to, smile when you walk in or just even walk by. I do; mine is a living room close to my front door. Every day, coming and going, I see my cream-coloured leather couches, with the blue green walls (Benjamin Moore Carolina Gull), my favourite patterned rug on heated 12 by 24 porcelain tiles and creamy white accents and I say "Oh, you are nice."
For you, your favourite room may be your kitchen, cheery, bright, airy or your theatre room, tech-savvy system, big screen and reclining seats for beverages. I've talked to moms that love the master bedroom retreat with a light grey padded headboard and crisp cotton geometric patterned comforter with pops of colour. Their bedroom ensemble includes a serene colour pallet with oatmeal accents and warm wood furniture or painted in a rich grey stain. Moms also will be quick to tell me their favourite new room is their kids' or babies' bedroom: freshly fixed with a feature wall in non-gender-specific colour like lavender or icy blue, just white, or white on white furniture and happy framed art of chevron, retro artwork of animals, favourite story book illustrations.
Whatever your favourite room or space is, it must say "you". How do you achieve this and know you are on the right track? Pick a design professional who knows different styles and will capture yours. Research your style. The Pro-Pack team's work is listed on Houzz.com. We showcase there exclusively with the exception of our own website because of the ease of researching real projects and finding style examples.
You may not have one specific style and that's good. Blending styles is one of the best tools for creating interesting spaces. For example, your partner loves rustic and you like classic pieces with a modern twist. Picking the space you would like to remodel i.e. living room, en suite, bathroom by clicking the tab to view photos on many different style choices until you find pics that interest you. Save them to your idea book and email them to your design professional. Keep them as easy access for bringing up on your smart phone and when referring back to style choices in furniture and accessories farther into the renovation or build.
We are all individuals, so your space should reflect you by showcasing what you love. Love where you live is the Pro-Pack Team's goal in renovating any space in your home. It speaks to individual style and taste but also to community and where you choose to call home.
If you have question about finding your style, blending styles and using the Houzz website, we would be happy to help. Contact us via the form listed here or our visit our office/showroom location listed below.

Taking Time to Breathe
Already I can hear them; all those well-known and cherished songs that signal the holiday season. I mostly catch them as I grab my groceries or when I’m out in my car. No, I don’t turn off the festive tunes right away, but listening to them in November makes the odds of listening to them all the way to December 25th nearly impossible.
This year, the Christmas tunes started as soon as we blew out the candles in our Jack-o-Lanterns. It seems that the jump from season to season is happening faster every year. I always think that I’m ready for it, but before I know it, everyone will be in full blown holiday season mode. The parties and the shopping, the baking of cookies and pies - or if you’re more like me, the purchasing of the baking - will be done every day.
I was raised to find this to be the season for hope, happiness and goodwill to all men. For many, it has become a season of stress and confusion. So when the season becomes overwhelming, take a moment to think about yourself and what this season is for you; not everyone around you. Now is the time to say no to those things that make the sane people act crazy. Planning the get-togethers, buying all the presents, committing to the fund raisers and the time with friends; these are all beautiful things that can drain you to the point of not enjoying the season at all. We have all seen it happen too many times.
I have found that my journey and my focus is to balance my desire for perfect with the outcome of nice. Sharing simple meals with friends, taking the time to sip cocoa or have a cup of steaming tea by the lights of my Christmas tree must have their time. Seeing family and truly being able to appreciate that time is very important as well. Decorating for fun – and because it’s what I love - and not because I feel I have to.
Your plans will look different than mine, I am sure. Whatever they are, I wish you a very nice holiday season. May it be a full season with less stress, more happy memories to add to your collection and, of course, some time to breathe.
February brought great weather to lower mainland as well as opportunities to start thinking about those much needed home renovation projects. The Pro-Pack team put together a great booth and showcased top trends in bathrooms renovations during the Fraser Valley Home Expo- Feb 6th, 7th and 8th. Located at the Tradex in Abbotsford, eager spectators viewed booths full of design and installation trends new to home builders and renovators alike.
